SRINAGAR — A militant was killed in a shootout in Natipora area of Srinagar after attacking a police party while another militant managed to flee, police said on Friday.
“Terrorists fired at Srinagar Police team. Police also retaliated. During the ensuing chance encounter, one terrorist got neutralised but one escaped. Arms and ammunition recovered. Identification being ascertained,” Kashmir Zone Police tweeted.
In another tweet, police said, “As per the identity card recovered from the killed terrorist, he has been identified as Aqib Bashir Kumar of Trenz Shopian, affiliated with proscribed terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba. Further details shall follow.”
A police official said that the entire area has been sealed and a manhunt has been launched to nab the militant who managed to flee from the spot.
Pertinently, the attack on the police team comes at a time when government forces are maintaining the highest level of vigil in the wake of recent killings of some civilians.
