SOPORE — A foreign national who according to Jammu and Kashmir police was involved in the killing of two councilors and a police cop, is among the two militants killed in a gunfight at Nathipora area of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Quoting an unnamed ‘top’ police official, KNO reported that two militants were killed in the operation at Nathipora area of sopore.
A police official said that the duo was hiding at a suspected spot and fired upon the joint search party triggering off a gunfight.
He said that along with the foreign, a local militant has been killed in the fight.
Quoting unnamed sources, Kashmir Despatch, a local newspaper, reported that the local militant, identified as Waseem Ahmad Lone, a resident of Hathlangoo, is among the two slain.
Pertinently, on Sunday, Waseem’s family made an appeal on social media asking him to return home.
Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kashmir, Vijay Kumar, earlier said that among the trapped militants, one is foreign who is involved in the killing of two councilors and a policeman.
Meanwhile, authorities have suspended internet services in Police District Sopore.
