JAMMU — In violation of the recent ceasefire between India and Pakistan, massive shelling and firing was witnessed along the International Border (IB) in Samba district of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, officials said.
Quoting Border Security Force (BSF) KNO reported that around 6:00 a.m., Pakistan Rangers targeted a BSF patrolling party on the International Border in Ramgarh sector of Samba district. The officials said they also retaliated effectively.
Earlier, on February 24 this year, in an unexpected move, India and Pakistan issued a joint statement agreeing to strictly observe ceasefire regulations afresh.
The re-commitment to the 2003 ceasefire came at a time when tensions were slowly ebbing at the LAC where India and China had been involved in a stand-off for almost nine months. (KNO)
