SRINAGAR — Authorities on Wednesday imposed Section 144 within municipal limits of Srinagar after the COVID-19 cases increased, stating that the main aim is to prevent the spread of the virus.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Choudhary, while talking to media persons said that police and other government forces have been deployed on the roads since morning to impose Section 144 CrPC in letter and spirit with an aim to prevent the virus from spreading.
He said that the 50 per cent of shops are closed as per the government order. He appealed the traders and shopkeepers to follow the order in letter and spirit.
SSP Srinagar further appealed the traders and common people to follow the limitations over the assembly of people under Section 144 CrPc as well.
However, he said, the crowded public transport is a challenge. He said the authorities are trying to find a solution in this regard as well by taking the transporters on board to ensure that the rush in these vehicles is reduced.
“Our target is to prevent the virus from spreading. Police, administration, civil society and common people have to coordinate with each other as it is the only way to combat the virus at this juncture,” he said. (KNO)
