SHOPIAN — Three militants have been killed while two more are hiding in a Masjid in Jan Mohalla area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
Police said that efforts are on to persuade the militants to surrender “keeping in view the sanctity of the Masjid.”
Four troopers including an officer have sustained injuries but are said to be stable.
Quoting an unnamed ‘top’ police official, KNO reported that so far three militants have been killed and two other are hiding in a Masjid.
“We are using teargas shells in view of the sanctity of the Masjid,” the official said.
Earlier, police had said that they have sent brother of a hiding militant along with the local imam inside the Masjid to persuade the militants to surrender “but efforts didn’t fructify.”
The gunfight broke out on Thursday in which three militants have been killed and four troopers including an officer sustained injuries so far.
The Inspector-General of Police for Kashmir range, Vijay Kumar, and the GoC Victor Force have been personally monitoring the situation. Internet has been snapped in Shopian and Pulwama districts since Thursday. (KNO)
