Srinagar: Two civilians were injured after militants fired upon government forces when they were laying cordon in Meej Pampore area of South Kashmir’s Awantipora district, police said.
Quoting a senior police officer, Global News Service (GNS) reported that as the joint team of Police, 50 RR and CRPF were laying the cordon, the hiding militants attacked with a volley of bullets and grenades upon the team.
Two civilians were injured in the incident. One of the injured has received bullet injuries in his thigh and has been identified as Kifayat Ahmad, according to Kashmir News Trust (KNT).
Both were shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment, the officer said.
The police officer further said that cordon has been tightened around the suspected area with lights installed around.
There was no contact between militants and security forces till this report was being filed. GNS
