Leh: A Chinese soldier has been apprehended by Indian Army in Chumar-Demchok area of Ladakh on Monday morning and taken into custody, ANI reported, quoting officials.
According to an India Today report, the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldier was carrying civil and military documents when he was captured in Ladakh by the Indian Army.
Officials said the soldier “might have entered Indian territory inadvertently” and will be returned to the Chinese Army as per established protocol after following due procedure.

The Chinese army soldier is said to be a Corporal-rank soldier and a resident of Shangxizhen town of central Zhejiang province, China.
“He is an armourer who repairs firearms. The agencies are investigating if the Chinese army soldier was on an espionage mission,” the report added.
A formal statement from the Indian Army is expected soon.
